VH1's Save the Music

A portion of the proceeds from the 2010 Unicity Festival will be donated to VH1's Save the Music Foundation.

The VH1 Save The Music Foundation was founded in 1997 as a public affairs initiative of the VH1 network. The Foundation’s core mission is to restore instrumental music education programs, ensuring that every child has access to a complete education that includes the benefits of music instruction. Since its inception, The Foundation has remained faithful to and focused on making our mission come to life. Now a 501(c) (3) not for profit organization, The Foundation continues working in close affiliation with its parent network. Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President and General Manager of VH1 serves as the current chairman of The Foundation’s Board of Directors.

As they examined the music education system throughout the nation, they found that music education is not only important for its intrinsic value, but research consistently demonstrated that students who study an instrument enhance their critical thinking skills and their ability to work together as a team. They are more engaged in school and less likely to drop out; and they do significantly better in all of their academic endeavors. Upon seeing the facts about the benefits of music education in a young person’s life, VH1 started The Foundation. Since that visionary moment, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation has proudly restored over 1,600 instrumental music programs in more than 100 cities nationwide, putting instruments into the hands of 1.2 million children. The Foundation is able to make grants of music education programs because of the generous support from its corporate sponsors, foundations, individuals and partners.

Discover Diversity Educational Scholarship Program

Summary
The Discover Diversity Educational Program was created to bring arts education and an experience to children that otherwise may never be exposed to such curriculum and performance opportunities. The performing arts are as diverse as the artists themselves. The program will open up minds and expose children to different races and cultures through the artistic content and through fellow performers. The program encourages individuality while simultaneously teaching students to work together as part of a group.

The program will cover one or more of the following areas:

  • Musical Theatre
  • Acting
  • Singing
  • School of Rock
  • Dance

The classes will be lead by teachers from The Premier Centre for the Arts and Realize Records Artists. The students will perform on the Family Stage at the 2010 Unicity Performing Arts Festival. Chosen participants will receive inclusion on the press release.

More details about the classes including dates and times will be available shortly.

  • The Rock the Recycle Mascot contest. Details to be announced shortly.

Angel Pass

Concept behind Unicity
The idea behind the Unicity Festival is to bring people together through the diversity of performing artists. So often you hear that you can only see certain types of artists in large cities throughout the country. At last years festival we were met with contention and told that people did not want diversity in their towns. Out of that contention the Angel Pass was born.

We asked people across the world if they believed in our concept and thought it was a positive goal to attempt to reach. If they believed that it was, we asked that they purchase an angel pass ticket to the event to support it even if they were unable to attend. Those angel passes were then donated to local charities and given to people who were not able to afford a ticket, the opportunity to attend the event.

Due to the large response, we will be offering Angel Passes again this year. They will be available for purchase when tickets go on sale. Tickets must be purchased at least 10 days in advance to allow us time to distribute.

If you or your organization would like to be recipients of an angel pass please contact us at community@unicityfestival.com
