Discover Diversity Educational Scholarship Program

Summary
The Discover Diversity Educational Program was created to bring arts education and an experience to children that otherwise may never be exposed to such curriculum and performance opportunities.  The performing arts are as diverse as the artists themselves.  The program will open up minds and expose children to different races and cultures through the artistic content and through fellow performers.  The program encourages individuality while simultaneously teaching students to work together as part of a group.

Scholarships are awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Recommendation letter from teacher or community leader
  • Show potential in performance ability
  • Maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average in school
  • Shows leadership among their peers

The program will cover one or more of the following areas:

  • Musical Theatre
  • Acting
  • Singing
  • School of Rock
  • Dance

The classes will be lead by teachers from The Premier Centre for the Arts and Realize Records Artists. The students will perform on the Family Stage at the 2009 Unicity Performing Arts Festival.  Chosen participants will receive inclusion on the press release.

The classes consist of four rehearsals: February, March, April and May and average 16 hours total.  A minimum of 50 students will be chosen.

Students must fill out the application form and submit it by Feb 1st 2009.  Chosen students will be announced on the Unicity website on Feb 15th 2009.

Applications will be available starting Dec 15th 2008

A portion of the proceeds from the 2009 Unicity Festival will be donated to The Tomorrow Fund.

The Tomorrow fund is a 501c3 endowment fund held in trust with the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. The purpose of the fund is to fund the participation of minority and at-risk youth in fee-based recreation programs the children might not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue.

The primary programs identified by the board of the Friends of Wicomico Recreation and Parks include the Salvation Army’s Richard Hazel Youth Center and Wicomico Recreation and Parks programs. It is hoped that five hundred or more children and many more programs will be impacted each year when the fund reaches the funding goal of $250,000. The campaign is organized by the Wicomico County Friends of Recreation and Parks and volunteers from the community with the support of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism. The Wicomico Friends of Recreation and Park’s board establishes annual goals and awards the scholarships and grants.

  • The booth provides information on easy changes everyone can make in their daily lives to help the planet.
  • Recycle bins in the park so that attendees can place their waste in the recycle bins at the festival.

Angel Pass

Concept behind Unicity
The idea behind the Unicity Festival is to bring people together through the diversity of performing artists.  So often you hear that you can only see certain types of artists in large cities throughout the country.  At last years festival we were met with contention and told that people did not want diversity in their towns.  Out of that contention the Angel Pass was born.

We asked people across the world if they believed in our concept and thought it was a positive goal to attempt to reach. If they believed that it was, we asked that they purchase an angel pass ticket to the event to support it even if they were unable to attend.  Those angel passes were then donated to local charities and given to people who were not able to afford a ticket, the opportunity to attend the event.

Due to the large response, we will be offering Angel Passes again this year.  They will be available for purchase when tickets go on sale.  Tickets must be purchased at least 10 days in advance to allow us time to distribute.

If you or your organization would like to be recipients of an angel pass please contact us at community@unicityfestival.com
